ISSUES & POLICIES

As longtime Central Oregonians, Michael and the Summers family have seen a great deal of changes and growth to the area over the past number of decades. Some changes have been great, while others have been detrimental. There are a number of issues that concern our community. Click an icon below to learn more about where Michael stands on the issues.

END THE SALEM TAX

Oregon has the sixth highest income tax rate in the nation and ranks 43rd in what taxpayers actually get back. Salem's regulations drive up housing, groceries, and business costs. Summers will cut the Salem Tax and demand every dollar spent on Central Oregon families actually delivers.

BETTER SCHOOLS,

LOCAL CONTROL

Education_icon.png

Oregon spends a lot and gets mediocre results. As Redmond School Board Chair Summers has made the real decisions — budgets, union negotiations, curriculum. He'll fight for local control, full transparency, and schools that prepare students for trades, healthcare, and technology.

PUBLIC SAFETY

THAT WORKS

Fully fund law enforcement. Restore consequences for crime. Pair enforcement with treatment-based intervention. Measure success by whether neighborhoods are actually safer — not by Salem's declaration count.

BUILD MORE

HOMES

Permitting delays, development charges, and short-term rental policies are pricing families out. Summers will reform the rules that make it too expensive and too slow to build the homes Central Oregon needs.

Jobs & Small Business

As a third-generation Central Oregon business owner, Summers knows what Oregon's regulatory burden does to local employers. Cut red tape, oppose job-killing tax increases, and build an economy where Central Oregon can hire, grow, and compete.

SOLVE HOMELESSNESS,

NOT DECLARE IT

Three emergency declarations. Billions spent. Homelessness up 17% in one year. Summers will stop writing blank checks to Salem and give Bend, Redmond, and Sisters the tools to solve this on their own streets.
